Founder & Thought Behind Niriya
Swecha Dharmapuri, Founder of Niriya, brings over a decade of experience in the field of education. She holds an AMI Primary Diploma, along with certifications in Infancy and the 6–12 age group.
Over the past ten years, Swecha has worked closely with children across both Montessori and non-Montessori environments, witnessing firsthand the transformative power of learning spaces that honour freedom, respect each child’s pace, and respond to their sensory and developmental needs. Noticing the limited awareness around age-appropriate, purposeful learning materials for infants and toddlers, she was inspired to bridge this gap through Niriya—offering handcrafted, Montessori-inspired play materials that nurture their physical, cognitive and emotional growth of the Absorbent Mind—the child’s innate capacity to absorb their environment and unconsciously shape their personality.
Growing Up
Montessori
My journey began in a family deeply rooted in education and medicine. My grandmother was among Hyderabad’s early Montessori educators. My parents dedicated their lives to community healthcare and education. Growing up, I was enriched by nature, outdoor adventures, and authentic learning experiences — principles that now shape everything. we create at Niriya.
Inspired Beginnings
Before Niriya, I ran a Montessori and Jiddu Krishnamurthi–inspired school in Warangal, India, founded by my father. For over a decade, I worked closely with both neurotypical and neurodivergent children, witnessing firsthand the power of learning through play materials and spaces with freedom that respect each child’s pace, sensory needs and unique potential.During my AMI-certified Montessori training, I deepened this understanding through the concept of the “absorbent mind” — a child’s natural ability to absorb their environment and unconsciously build their personality from it. In these formative years, the child is not merely learning, they are becoming.
This sparked the creation of Niriya — a response to the need for thoughtful, developmentally aligned play materials that support this natural process of self-construction. Recognizing the lack of awareness around age-appropriate learning tools for infants and toddlers, I set out to fill that gap through handcrafted, Montessori-inspired materials that nurture their physical, cognitive and emotional growth.
At Niriya, we don’t just believe in purposeful play — we build it.

Pedagogical Designer
Weaving coherence and intention across Niriya’s learning materials
Prerna Johar is an early childhood specialist with AMI Infancy and Primary diplomas spanning the first plane of development, along with certification for ages 6–12 years. With over a decade of experience, she has collaborated with schools, start-ups, and digital platforms to design enriching, child-centric learning experiences. She works closely with educators and families to strengthen home–school partnerships and create environments where children truly thrive.
Rooted in Montessori philosophy, Prerna has designed these early learning tools to be accessible to parents from the very beginning—ensuring that a child’s developmental journey is supported right from birth. Each material reflects careful observation, intention, and a deep understanding of the child’s sensorial and developmental needs. As reflected in Niriya’s approach: “True learning unfolds when we trust the child—when we observe with intention and allow sensorial experiences to guide discovery.”
